Psychologists generally consider the organism the basis of the mind, and therefore a vitally related area of study.

In some places, governments legally regulate who can provide psychological services or represent themselves as a “psychologist”.

The first meeting of the International Congress of Psychology took place in Paris, in August 1889.

One of the earliest psychology societies was La Société de Psychologie Physiologique in France, 1885–1893.
